EAST HARLEM – Imagine this: a 20-story building is being constructed. It is going up where a police parking lot used to be. This building will bring hundreds of affordable apartments to the neighborhood. That’s Timbale Terrace.
Nearly 100 units will go to formerly homeless residents, with more than 240 additional apartments for families. Here’s the fun twist. It will also be home to the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance. Because, really, what’s life without a little music to go with your rent?

Supportive housing programs will make sure residents have help when they need it. Some neighbors have concerns about safety, others are cheering it on. Migdalia Molina put it perfectly: “There are a lot of people that are homeless. They need a place to stay. We are all human.”
Timbale Terrace is expected to open in 2028. It represents a new mix of community, culture, and care. It is the kind of place that makes you wonder why more cities don’t think like this.
