NEW YORK — New Yorkers can enjoy a short reprieve from the bitter cold this week. However, winter isn’t finished yet.
Temperatures will stay near freezing on Wednesday and Thursday. Sunshine will return. Commuters should remain cautious of patchy black ice in the mornings.
Clouds increase Friday as an Arctic front approaches, bringing the likelihood of snow showers Friday night into early Saturday. Some areas could see a light coating to an inch of snow, creating slippery conditions for drivers and pedestrians.

Following the front, dangerously cold air and strong winds will move in, pushing wind chills below zero on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to slowly improve next week.
Chief Meteorologist Lee Goldberg warns that an AccuWeather Alert is in effect this weekend. Highs will be stuck in the teens. Additionally, wind chills will be dangerously cold. Residents are urged to exercise caution outdoors and stay tuned to Eyewitness News and AccuWeather for the latest updates.
