Breast self-awareness is a flexible approach to breast health. Instead of strict monthly self-exams, it encourages familiarity with your own body.
Two decades ago, the American Cancer Society stopped recommending self-exams for average-risk individuals. Studies found they didn’t detect more cancers when regular mammograms were performed.

Over 300,000 U.S. women and about 2,600 men are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2026. Early detection through mammograms and body awareness remains key.
