On Monday, many Con Edison customers in Boerum Hill lost power. Others in Park Slope also experienced an outage. Power outages impacted many. Hundreds of them had been affected. Some have been without power since Friday. Crews worked to restore service amid icy conditions.

The utility company attributed the outages to underground electrical equipment. The equipment was damaged by melting snow and road salt. This combination knocked out two major power lines.

City Council Member Shahana Hanif expressed frustration over the ongoing disruption. “Families are unable to make arrangements because the estimated time of restoration keeps moving,” she said. “We need a plan from Con Edison and the city to ensure that residents are prepared before a snowstorm.”

Frigid temperatures have compounded the problem, with manholes under five feet of ice and snowed-in cars blocking critical access points. Con Edison reported progress after initially cutting power to more than 2,000 customers Monday.

A warming center has been opened at the Wyckoff Gardens Community Center for those affected. Crews continue to navigate icy streets to restore electricity.
