A massive landslide occurred in Sicily. It forced over 1,500 residents of Niscemi to evacuate. This happened after days of heavy rain from a cyclone.

The landslide stretched 4 kilometers, leaving some homes and vehicles hanging precariously. Authorities created a 150-meter “no-go” zone for safety.

Civil protection chief Fabio Ciciliano said, “The entire hill is collapsing onto the plain of Gela. Some homes can no longer be inhabited. We need permanent relocation plans.”

The federal government declared a state of emergency and allocated 100 million euros, while regional officials estimate total damage at 2 billion euros ($2.4 billion). Residents face long-term displacement.
