Dr. Mark Benson of the University of Wisconsin-Madison says, “The gut microbiome is incredibly complex. Our understanding is still in its infancy.” Changes in gut bacteria are linked to obesity, diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Some companies, like Thorne, offer gut health tests alongside supplement recommendations. While probiotics are not FDA-regulated, tracking results over time can help some people manage their health.
